German Military Helicopter Crash In Mali Caused By Incorrect Set Autopilot

Image
The crash of a German military Airbus Tiger helicopter in Mali  in July 2017 was caused by incorrect settings on the autopilot, Germany’s Spiegel Online reported. The helicopter crashed while flying a peacekeeping mission in the West African nation’s desert north, killing the two crew members. Spiegel Online said the Defence Ministry had informed the parliamentary defence committee about the new findings. It said the autopilot controlled the airplane’s elevator. It remained unclear who programmed the settings on the autopilot software, which were not found on any other Tiger helicopters. Spiegel Online cited a report from the Defence Ministry as saying the autopilot flew the helicopter sharply lower, leaving the pilots no chance to manually take the plane higher again. A parliamentary source confirmed the gist of the Spiegel report. An Airbus spokesman declined comment and referred all queries to German military authorities investigating the accident. Image
Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha of Imo State yesterday came down heavily on a Coalition of Human Rights and Good Governance organisations in the South East geopolitical zone for tagging him the worst governor ever produced in the entire region. The group, comprising 17 civil society organisations, passed the verdict in a paper presented in Onitsha, Anambra State, titled, “The best and the worst in south east Nigeria: A comprehensive review of good governance in the geopolitical zone dating to the Second Republic among other burning national issue.” The governor, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, described the CSOs as faceless persons. Okorocha said he had no time to join issues with persons with no identity, adding that any attempt to reply them would lead to their shame. “We won’t reply faceless persons. When you publish what they said about us, we shall reply them as appropriately and I want to assure you they would bury their faces in shame in the end,” he said.

UNICEF Communication Officer, Blessing Ejiofor, speaking at a meeting on child nutrition in Ogun state attributed the high number of stunted children in the region to acute malnutrition. She revealed that 19.4% of children in South West are stunted, which is only second to what is obtained in the North. She said; “However, 19.4 per cent of children in South-West Nigeria are stunted. This figure is worse than the figure for the South-East and the south-south but better than the North as we would see during the presentations. This calls for more work by everyone –government and all of us. “As agenda setters, we must do more to keep child nutrition conversations on the priority list of those that can act to reverse this ugly trend. “UNICEF believes that journalists can help set the agenda for action against all forms of child malnutrition, be it se

"Prophets Of Doom Have Been Put To Shame" – Oyegun

John Oyegun, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says the outcome of the meeting of the party’s national caucus had shamed the prophets of doom who predicted his removal from office. He said this when he briefed state house correspondents after the APC national caucus meeting which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja, on Monday night. Describing the outcome of the meeting as “beautiful and pleasant”, Oyegun accused the media of manufacturing and exaggerating issues within the party. “In fact, I want to ask the media where did they dig them out (of) because we just had a pleasant meeting and all what I have been reading in the media none of it (happened), all the prophecies of doom none of it even came near for mention,’’ he said. Oyegun also dismissed the assertion that the caucus discussed his exit date as party chairman, describing it as mere media speculation. He said: “It is the media we should ask where do t
