Daily Habits To Improve Your Self-Esteem

Life is already tough but it’s even harder when we see ourselves as a failure or not up to par.  Having low self-esteem can make life seem unbearable at times. You may be a victim of self-sabotage, sadness and low confidence. Or you may lash out at others, have trouble making decisions and avoid great opportunities. If this sounds like you, there are things that you can do to change things around. Below are some daily habits that you can implement to improve your self-esteem.

1 – Exercise

Exercise should be a high priority on your list. You can easily improve your self-esteem by breaking a sweat each day. Your body will begin feeling better and your mind will follow. During certain physical activities like cardio, endorphins are released into your body causing a natural “high”. You instantly feel better, your mood improves, and your outlook on life improves. Exercise has to be a priority. Make getting up early every morning to exercise a habit, and in no time you will increase your self-esteem.

2 – Avoid Comparing

Unfortunately for many, self-worth comes from other people. It’s human nature to want the approval of others but doing this can cause very low self-esteem. When we see someone else being admired and praised and realized we are not like that, we start to think negatively of ourselves. If you don’t look like the super-model or fitness hunk on the magazine, then you can see yourself as inferior. If you aren’t the smart doctor or lawyer, or married with kids like some of your peers, you can question your own value. To improve your self-esteem, you must STOP doing this. Realize that you are unique and you are on your own path. You can’t waste your time trying to be like someone else, otherwise you will miss your own calling.

3 – Watch The Way You Talk (Internally and Externally)

Those who struggle with low self-esteem have a constant voice in their head telling them they are not smart enough, talented enough, pretty enough, etc. This voice needs to be squashed. Whatever you say, both internally, and externally manifests itself into reality. Even when what you are saying is not true. When you say “I’m not good enough,” you won’t take action to BE good enough. When you say, “I’m no good in relationships,” you’ll sabotage really great relationships. To improve your self-esteem, first you must dedicate yourself to NEVER speak negatively about yourself aloud again. Ever. Not even when you are alone.
The voices inside your mind are a different story. You can’t control when they pop up, but you can diminish their power. To do this, you must contradict the negative voices with internal, or external positive declarations. These are called affirmations. When that voice says, “I’m not good enough,” repeat over and over “I am good enough.” Saying things out loud to yourself may seem silly, but trust me they work. Soon you will begin believing in the positive affirmations and believing in yourself. It’s like magic.

4 – Focus On Something Good About You

No matter how bad you think of yourself, there is something that you can be proud of. It may not be obvious to you at the moment but here is an exercise that will help you identify the good things about you.
Self-Esteem Exercise:
Sit down with a piece of paper and write out a list of traits. The more the better. If you can write 25 – 50, perfect? If you are having trouble with this, download my free ‘Great Things About Me’ worksheet to help you get started. Of the items on this list, choose your top 10 that you are most proud of. Keep them in a place where you can see them every day. Constantly focusing on your strengths instead of your weakness is a self-esteem booster.

5 – Improve Your Skills and Knowledge

Every single day you should seek to learn something new. I constantly read self-improvement blogs and publications to improve my body and mind. You should also continuously strive to learn. Seek to improve your skills in your career and personal life. If you do nothing, you will quickly get left behind in this fast paced world, and your self-esteem will plummet. What can you do each day to improve and learn? Ask yourself that every morning you wake up. Be smarter when you lay your head down at night, than you were when you woke up.

6 – Stop Trying To Be Perfect

Guess what? You are not perfect. Neither am I and neither is anyone else. Every person has flaws and every person has something they wish they could change. You are no different. It may seem like the person you follow on Instagram is flawless, but trust me, they probably have things that they wish they could change as well. Trying to be perfect will just make you feel insecure and frustrated in the long run.

7 – Challenge Your Limiting Beliefs

Limiting beliefs wreak havoc on our lives. These are beliefs that tell you that you can’t do something or be a certain way. They are so ingrained in your life that it feels impossible to overcome them. I wrote a whole book on how to change your limiting beliefs but here is a quick tip if you want to improve your self-esteem and increase your self-worth. Every time you have a limiting belief, challenge it with these questions:
